Gli avori di Dio
Marcus Helder e Johann Eisenberg tra 1616 e 1231

Il museo degli argenti a Firenze conserva tra i suoi tesori medicei una notevole collezione di avori torniti. Tra essi, i più singolari, per aspetto e storia, sono senz'altro i vasi provenienti da Coburgo. Fragili e fantasiosi, a renderli ancora più curiosi è il fatto che essi sono arrivati a Firenze come bottino di guerra.
Si trovavano nel palazzo ducale di Ehrenburg a Coburgo quando questa città, il 28 settembre 1632, fu presa dall'armata imperiale durante la guerra dei trent'anni. Un colonnello di nome Keller si appropriò dei vasi ma in seguito li consegnò al principe Mattias de' Medici il quale, legato all'imperatore da vincoli di parentela, combatteva nelle truppe imperiali. In piena guerra i vasi furono spediti attraverso le Alpi a Firenze, al granduca Ferdinando II, fratello di Mattias. Arrivarono il 1° di Aprile 1633 e furono sistemati nella Galleria degli Uffizzi. Trentadue erano i vasi a Ehrenburg, trenta furono inviati e ventisette si conservano ancora. Si tratta di un gruppo omogeneo che si rivela eseguito da due tornitori tedeschi operanti alla corte dello sfortunato principe di Coburgo, Johann Casimir duca di Sassonia, Julich, Cleve e Berg. Sotto le basi o all'interno dei coperchi di sedici di questi vasi si trovano incise la firma degli autori e le date; in alcuni casi si aggiungono anche iscrizioni che sono o una dedica oppure dei motti di carattere religioso o popolaresco. le date vanno dal 1618 al 1631 e le firme si riferiscono a Marcus Heiden e Johann Eisenberg. In due casi, il duca stesso si dichiara artefice di un vaso.
Marcus Heiden di Coburgo era tornitore e "maestro di fuochi d'artifizio e fucili" del duca; Johann Eisenberg, oriundo di Gotha, era il suo allievo.
Poco si sarebbe saputo di questi due artisti, se nel 1640 lo stesso Heiden nn avesse scritto un piccolo prezioso libro, conservato, forse in un unico esemplare, presso la biblioteca regionale di coburgo. Lo scopo dichiarato del libro, che è dedicato a Guglielmo di Sassonia era di fornire la descrizione di un "vaso tornito con decorazioni intagliate e lavori traforati" eseguito dallo Heiden, insieme alla spiegazione del suo "contenuto spirituale". Il vaso, che esiste tuttora, è conservato al Kunsthistorisches Museum di Vienna. Dal saccheggio del palazzo di Ehrenburg, a Coburgo nn si erano più lavorati vasi in avorio al tornio, pertanto Heiden decise di eseguirne uno che avrebbe dovuto servire come esempio. Nel Libro è descritto minuziosamente il vaso che viene interpretato come la forza della Chiesa e della fede cristiana. la Narrazione è accompagnata anche da citazioni dalla Bibbia e strofe in tedesco composte dallo stesso Heiden che emerge dalle pagine come un uomo colto e profondamente religioso in senso luterano. Esso era poeta e si occupava di fuochi d'artificio; altri tornitori d'avorio, settecenteschi, erano orologiai, oppure artefici di strumenti musicali, fucili e macchine da teatro: il tornitore artistico era maestro versatile che godeva di molta stima a corte. il suo lavoro si basa sull'applicazione delle regole matematiche, e la passione per il tornire dimostrata dai principi si inserisce tra gli interessi delle epoca per la meccanica, la geometria e le scienze naturali. Al tornio si realizzavano le idee astratte e geometriche, e i cubi, globi, poliedri, frequentemente rappresentati, si ispirarono ai cristalli. Una dentro l'altra queste forme ricordano il sistema planetario di Keplero, il suo "mysterium cosmograficum" del 1595, con il quale egli pensò di penetrare i segreti della creazione. Con il settecento il tornire diventa argomento di studio all'Accadémie Royale des Sciences di Parigi. Vengono pubblicati manuali che, a differenza del libro di Heiden, spiegano i metodi e la tecnica. Gli artefatti dell'epoca sono altrettanto complicati, ma ad essi manca la vigorosa inventività che caratterizza i vasi di Heiden e di Eisenberg.

Dalle piazze a nobili dimore
decorativi architettonici

Fin dall'epoca classica colonne e obelischi, coppe e vasche di varie fogge e materiali vennero utilizzate come oggetti decorativi per edifici pubblici e residenze private. Un gusto, questo, che rifiorì nel '500. Ma l'oggettistica ben presto si diversificò e così l'attenzione dei maestri artigiani si rivolse ai frammenti architettonici. Questi elementi, riprodotti in scala ridottissima permisero la decorazione degli interni delle dimore gentilizie del rinascimento. Una passione che durò a lungo esplodendo poi nel periodo neoclassico, all'indomani di grandi scoperte archeologiche: basti pensare ad Ercolano e Pompei: L'antichità romana viene assunta come modello e ad essa si ispireranno celebri artisti. Nella prima metà dell' 800, per viaggiatori illustri e stranieri, Roma diventò una tappa obbligatoria e con l'acquisto di obelischi in miniatura si consacrava il ricordo della città. Souvenir ricercati e allo stesso tempo molto costosi. A Roma, in Piazza di Spagna, fiorirono le botteghe di artigiani marmisti, esperti nella lavorazione del marmo duro, il materiale utilizzato per questi oggetti che ben presto entreranno a far parte di ricche collezioni. Il gusto fu prettamente romano, anche se qualcosa veniva confezionato a Firenze, dove l'Opificio fiorentino era attrezzato per la lavorazione dei marmi duri. Le opere dei maestri artigiani, Costantino Roinaldi e Benedetto Boschetti, che operarono tra il XVIII e il XIX secolo, sono ancora i più richiesti.

Cypress Myth

Quando Orfeo cantava, attorno a lui si radunava una vera folla di animali e di alberi tra cui anche il cipresso,che precedentemente aveva avuto sembianze umane ed era stato uno splendido giovinetto amato da Febo.
Allora si chiamava Ciparisso ed era allegro e gentile con tutti, ma soprattutto con un cervo, con cui trascorreva intere giornate. Il cervo era eccezionale per le sue dimensioni e per le sue corna,tanto ramificate da tenergli la testa sempre in ombra.
Le corna erano adornate d’oro e d’argento ed il collo di monili luccicanti di gemme. Sulla fronte aveva una borchia argentata e dalle orecchie pendevano delle perle. Tutto questo faceva capire quanto lo amassero le ninfe e gli uomini che si divertivano a renderlo ancora più bello.
Il bellissimo Ciparisso lo conduceva sempre con sé, o a bere nelle limpide fonti oppure a caccia e, quando ambedue si sentivano stanchi, il ragazzo si sedeva sui prati accanto al cervo e gli intrecciava corone di fiori, che gli posava sul capo o tra le corna; poi, così adorno, lo conduceva al pascolo. Stavano sempre insieme il cervo ed il fanciullo.Un giorno di gran calura, il cervo si era steso per riposare, mentre Ciparisso aveva continuato a cacciare. Non si sa come, uno strale, lanciato dal fanciullo, andò a colpire il cervo addormentato, ferendolo gravemente. La povera bestia non riprese più conoscenza e morì sotto gli occhi sconvolti del suo amico, che continuava a chiamarlo. Ciparisso provò un dolore tanto forte che no potè sopportare l’idea di continuare a vivere senza il cervo e decise di lasciarsi morire. Neppure Febo poté fare nulla per evitare la morte del fanciullo che adorava. Tuttavia, le membra di Ciparisso piano piano diventarono verdi e i capelli si mutarono in una chioma irta e allungata verso il cielo, che, in quel momento, era gremito di stelle. Allora Febo gli disse: “Io ti piangerò e non potrò mai dimenticarti. Tu sarai con chi piange la morte dei cari ed è afflitto da un forte dolore”

Da trecento, Tracentocinquant'anni, e non da cinque o sei secoli come ce l'ha , per esempio, la nobiltà siciliana. E quindi non abbiamo ancora avuto tempo per stancarcene." I Corsini, come la gran parte delle più antiche famiglie fiorentine, avevano origini mercantili; vantavano alti prelati, un papa qualche uomo d'arme e molti politici. Subito dopo la fase mercantile e quindi necessariamente urbana della loro storia, mantennero sempre rapporti molto stretti con le loro terre, vi costruirono nei secoli ville e casali, le abitatavano nelle stagioni della caccia e nel periodo dei raccolti. Distaccati dai problemi strettamente tecnici e contabili com'era giusto che i signori fossero, dopo la prima guerra mondiale che portò alla trasformazione nel panorama economico, e poi con la grande rivoluzione sociale conseguente alla seconda guerra mondiale, i nobili toscani dovettero intraprendere grandi cambiamenti, lasciando il rapporto aristocratico e sentimentale con le proprietà e sostituirlo con una gestione competente tecnichamente ed economichamente. Constretta quindi da questi mutamenti, l'aristocrazia fiorentina era andata affinando la sua esperienza agria. Uomini come Luigi Ricasoli, Filippo Pandolfini, il marchese Torriggiani e il conte pesciolini si dedicarono al rinnovo radicale dei loro patrimoni fondiari muovendosi sul piano delle loro competenze universitarie e avvalendosi di una tradizione di studi che tra Firenze e Perugia era tra le più importanti. A loro infine poi successe una generazione, pure di estrazione universitaria, la cui capacità e semplicità si distinse nel panorama aristocratico italiano.
Vittorio Frescobaldi, Lapo Mazzei, Bettino Ricasoli, Simone S,Clemente suscitarono grande ammirazione conducendo vite semplici, concrete, fattive, di modi riservati, immerse comunque nello splendore di cornice in cui essi si muovevano.
Questa semplicità apparve chiara ad esempio al party che i Ricasoli dettereo per festeggiare Bettino con una Ruffo di Calabria. Nulla di tutto ciò che venne offerto agli ospiti proveniva da fuori Blolio; il buffet era composto di ciò che un grande chef poteva presentare con l'uso esclusivo di prodotti locali; quanto ai drinks nessun prodotto Mumm, o Veuve Cliquot, Gordon o Haig & Haig venne versato nei bichieri del castello, si brindò solo con ciò che le grandi cantine baronali fornivano.

Ennemondo Petitot, Lionese, di famiglia di architetti e antiquari, chiamato a Parma poco dopo la metà del secolo dal ministro illuminato Du Tillot, disegnò nell'anno 1771 queste figure e con gusto squisito, quasi surrealista traccio una sottile parodia del neoclassicismo. Parma quindi, oltre ad ospitare nella stamperia ducale il Bodoni e a vantare le botteghe di falegnami in cui nascono i mobili "parmigiani" che oggi, a ragione, tanto si ricercano, ha il privilegio di pubblicare una simile meraviglia ed ad ospitare questo illustre architetto cui si deve molto dell'urbanistica e dell'architettura che fanno bella e moderna Parma.
Esempio di gusto e ragione, paradigma di un secolo fondato sulla chiarezza, ma allo stesso tempo bizzarro, visionario; "Mascarade à la greque", come il "flauto magico" di Mozart ad esempio, suggerisce che il male del surrealismo è di essere fiorito in un età poco ragionevole come la nostra.

There's a lot to be said for reducing the size of audio equipment to compact integrated units. Their biggest advantage is that they require stunningly little space. Wega have built such compact units for many years, but the present pack is an unprecedented example of how neatly and consistently the integrated system can be perfected. Functionally, the four audio components in this system are quite indipendent, but from a casing and aesthetic point of view they are all breaketed together by a joint chassis for the integrated amp, the tuner, the cassette deck and the turntable - the whole technology of it being enveloped as by a body stocking. The turntable cover has a see-through aperture in it so you can see the pickup and the record, but the controls are positioned outside so that you don't interfere with them while doing your thing.

One of the many outstanding gadgets in this compact unit is that some well-concealed circuitry will optimise the sound quality of incoming stereo signals. More precisely, it's called the ''ASS-Circuit'' and designed to automatically and continuously reduce the stereo effect from a remote transmitter to just that degree which is required to cut out noise, in other words, it's a matter of perpetually approaching or moving away from mono quality in line with the quality of the incoming signal. As a new option, Wega products can now be had in light grey instead of their traditional black. The Concept 51 K music centre is supplemented by a matching floor-based desk-type unit for greater operating convenience.

Il suo obiettivo fu di apportare incremento e splendore alla stampa, instradarla, avvicinarla alla massima nitidezza ed eleganza delle lettere. Ricercò accanitamente la proporzione, l'armonia perfetta e per lui essere "artista" significò accoppiare alla bravura, lo studio e il buon gusto.

"The use of polaroid became obvious as i planned to perform my own exhibition Technically, I meant to scan the film in high resolution, to extend it as much as possible, then to print it to display the picture in a bigger size. The models are mainly artists, some of whom mainstream, the others, unknown characters, under-age hipsters or forty-year-somethings, former happy fews. Neutral close up or deviant portraits.
Three reasons to use polaroid: technical/emotional/aesthetic: the first one for quick shooting performance, instantaneousness of the result and its materialization in an all-digital an all-virtual world. Secondly because it is both old school and hip for the youth and the medium of a childhood nostalgia for the forty-something. Thirdly for the scare form that is the most appropriate for the portrait. The rough neutral visuals with the inner flash. Besides, the intemporality of the polaroid helps the portrait being abstract and somehow more objective, less in need of a context."

La lussuosa armatura "Alla Romana" fu lavorata da Bartolomeo Campi nel 1546. Egli si trovava a Pesaro al servizio del Duca d'Urbino Guidobaldo II della Rovere, il quale a sua volta voleva donarla all'Imperatore Carlo V in segno di gratitudine.
La corazza é in forme classico greco romane interpretate in modo rinascimentale con elegante sobrietà decorativa e una perfetta aderenza al corpo. l'acciaio brunito è arrichito di ornati applicati a rilievo in bronzo dorato e, su altri pezzi, di agemina d'oro e d'argento. sul petto l'autore espresse la propria soddisfazione iscrivendo: BARTHOLOMEVS. CAMPI. AVRIFEX. TOTIUS. OPERIS. ARTIFEX. QUOD. ANNO. INTEGRO. INDIGEBAT. PRINCIPS. SVI. NVTVI. OBTEMPERAS. GEMINATO. MENSE. PERFECIT. e inoltre applica come ornamento una piccola testa di Medusa rilevata tra foglie d'acanto e volute. La panziera è composta con una serie di medaglioni di bronzo su cui appaiono bucrani, folgori di giove, mascheroni, unicorni ed altre figure; sotto pendono piastre rettangolari brunite e profilate d'oro.

Questa mezza armatura fu regalata dal governatore di Milano il Duca di Terranova al principe Filippo, che allora aveva sette anni, futuro Re Don Filippo III. Fu Lavorata da Lucio Piccino intorno al 1585. Completamente ornata con un rilievo a figure, cartelle, grottesche e ghirlande su fondo di agemina. L'elmetto ha la goletta con visiera di due pezzi, la corazza ha le figure della Vittoria, della Fama e di Pallade, Gli spallacci con ghirlande sono articolati e muniti di bracciali.

Aloys Zötl ( nato il 4 Dicembre 1803 a Freistadt; morto il 21 ottobre 1887 a Eferding ) fu un maestro tintore dell'alta Austria.
La Mancanza di dettagli biografici dell'artista ci porta a fantasticare liberamente sulle condizioni in cui egli realizzò, tra il 1831 e il 1887, il suo "Bestiaire".
L’opera di Zötl è così commentata dallo scopritore delle sue opere e artista surrealista André Breton: “si direbbe che, attraverso un occhio addestrato dal mestiere alle più sottili selezioni dei colori e dei loro toni, Zötl sia entrato in possesso di un prisma mentale che funziona da strumento visionario e gli svelava a catena, sino ai suoi esemplari più remoti, quel regno animale che conduce notoriamente dentro di noi un ‘esistenza enigmatica e svolge un ruolo fondamentale nel simbolo subcosciente. “Il mondo degli animali – ha detto Lamartine - è un oceano di simpatie da cui non beviamo che gocce mentre potremmo assorbire torrenti”. Da quest’oceano di simpatie emergevano allora soltanto le giungle di Henri Rousseau, che a più titoli si potrebbe apparentare a Zötl. Come oggi a New York si incaricano gaiamente esperti di botanica di individuare eventuali contatti tra il Doganiere e la vegetazione tropicale, così sarebbe vano investigare i documenti a partire dai quali, senza dubbio raramente basandosi su un’esperienza diretta, Zötl ha riscoperto la perfetta concordanza organica tra l’animale e l’habitat di cui è il vivente geroglifico".

Una bella pagina tipografica è come un bel'edificio: in essa l'occhio può trovare la stessa aurea ripartizione degli spazi, il rapporto tra pieni e vuoti ( saranno i neri e i bianchi ), insomma equilibrio, movimento, nitidezza, eleganza. Per questo, creare un nuovo carattere tipografico si rivela alla fine un' operazione artistica e Bodoni, appare qualcosa in più di un abilissimo artigiano.

In questo modo Alberto Tallone, "éditeur-imprimeur à Paris", ha inteso per 22 anni la suo attività di tipografo. Tallone è nato nel 1989 a Milano in una famiglia in cui il gusto per l'arte era nell'aria: suo padre era il celebre ritrattista Cesare Tallone, la madre una donna colta, sensibile, ricca di impulsi delicati. Fino a trentaquattro anni egli non seppe nulla, o quasi, di tipografia, ma facendo il libraio antiquario ebbe occasione di ritrovarsi nelle mani i capolavori aldini o bodoniani; di qui venne la passione di farsi editore. Tallone entrò nel laboratorio di Maurice Garantière, forse il miglior tipografo di francia; nel 1938 questa tipografia divenne sua. Nel 1950 con l'edizione dei "Sonetti" di Shakespeare nacque finalmente il "carattere Tallone". Egli in seguito sposta la sua famosa tipografia da Parigi all'Italia, ad Alpignano, a pochi chilometri da Torino, accanto alla sua casa materna: "occorre quiete, meditazione per essere un buon tipografo" dice.

Il carattere Tallone naque quand'egli si innamorò di un certo "elzeviro olandese" scovato in un catalogo e fece di tutto, ma invano, per ottenere il permesso dal governo francese per acquistarlo. fu una grande delusione ma una delusione feconda, perchè lo spinse a disegnare il "suo" carattere: un corpo dodici elegante e sobrio, senza fronzoli o lezi, classico non "fantaisiste", che parte dagli esempi romani ma che rifiuta alcuni modi antichi non più soffribili dai moderni.

Best known as the marimba player and percussionist for Liquid Liquid, a New York City post-punk/no wave band that was active from 80 to 83 on downtown Manhattan legendary 99 records (US)

Liquid Liquid was one of the bands who bridged the gap between rock's new wave and avantgarde funk, both staples of the New York avantgarde.

While they performed dozens of songs over a span of six years (formed in 1979, they will perform their last gig in 1985), their entire recording career consists in only three limited quantities Eps.

Often asked members of the audience to bring their own percussion to their gigs.

Once they were so impressed by Dennis Young talent on his marimba that they invited him to join.

Ciao Dennis. What you personally think was the worth of living your late 70's early 80's and that we missed.

DY : You missed a quite period in music history. After the punk revolution there was a need it seemed to go back to the feel of the music as in drums. percussion, & bass. This was especially felt in NYC. Also, there seemed to be more opportunites to play live back then

What can teach us something or make us curious, what you think has a value and worth not to be forget, a couple of images, places where you and bands use to play or precious people, differences with the present way of having fun and making music,

just a couple of things that can take us back to your experience.

DY : We Liquid Liquid really enjoyed playing in NYC with bands such as ESG, Konk, Y-Pants etc.. Also in Europe we had opportunity to play with Sonic Youth and various other euro bands. The crowds were really into us especially our first tour in Europe. I think the present day audiences especially NYC do not have places to go that they know they are always going to hear interesting music. Kids don't go to clubs because of the clubs for what they are anymore. You rarely see the same people.

Your interest in world music or the fact that you play various exotic instruments is an sensitive and open example to follow and appreciate.

Would you mention a couple of artists that you consider great and have infuenced you and should be listened to by the youngsters?

DY : The artists that have really influenced me have been artists such as Fela Kuti, Brian Eno, Bill Bruford, Jamie Muir, Steve Reich, Terry Reily, Morris Pert, Robert Fripp etc.. I was heavy into prog rock before Liquid Liquid Some of the records though that really got me into percussion were King Crimson-"Larks Tongue in Aspec", Fela Kuti-Zombie & Can-"Tago Mago". Jamie Muir & Bill Bruford were amazing on Larks Tongue in Aspec. Also, I saw Morris Pert in concert with Brand X that was a huge influence in percussion

Anything you want to say and have never said before? Something you feel might be intresting or useful

DY : It was really luck and timing for me getting into Liquid Liquid. I was in a college music class with Richard McGuire ( Liquid Liquid ) I just purchased a marimba had no idea how to play it being that I was only a drummer at the time Richard had this poster that he showed me that he was arranging a jam session involving anyone with percussion instruments to come out to play not even knowing that I had a marimba I just purchased. So to make a long story short I went down to play and rest is history. So you never know.

Beauty as always been dependent on fashion. Each age has concentrated on different parts of the female body, from the Cretan ladies who left their bosoms bare to the 1970's girls who showed their legs from the hot pants down. What all previous ages had in common is an admiration for women's hair which was traditionally regarded as her crowning glory.

For the girl of the twenties, long hair was an incovenience and not even Mary Pickford [1] 's appealing ringlets which were making their appearance in silent pictures could stop women from bobbing [2] their hair. For many it was an expression of confidence in themeselves as equals in a man's world that made them cut their hair, in defiance of his wishes and to show how themeselves as assertive as he could be. The shorter the hair, the more manly the clothes became, culminating in the most unattractive Eton crop which appeared in 1926. Women were more or less forced to cut their hair by the universal and enduring fashion for the cloche hat [3] which simply could not be worn attractively with long hair. Ultra-smart women devised eccentric forms of male hairdressing for evening parties. Lovely blondes were nicknamed les coques d'or because they curled the straight ends of their short golden locks and then brushed them into a peak resembling a roosters comb. Another parted their hair at the back near the right ear, oiled it and then combed it sideways from left to right. Hair oil was used and the ingenious girls used a dilute sugar water mixture to keep their shingle curls in place. Ladies went to men's hairdressers who charged their prices, from 2 half pounds upped to 17 half pounds.

Ladies' salons were opened early on in the decade.

Victor of Aveyron (also The Wild Boy of Aveyron) was a feral child who apparently lived his entire childhood naked and alone in the woods before being found wandering the woods near Saint-Sernin-sur-Rance, France in 1797. He was captured, but soon escaped. He was then captured again and kept in the care of a local woman for about a week before he escaped once more.
However, on January 8, 1800, he emerged from the forests on his own, perhaps habituated to human kindness after his second experience. His age was unknown but citizens of the village estimated that he was about twelve years old. His lack of speech, as well as his food preferences and the numerous scars on his body, indicated that he had been in the wild for the majority of his life.

This remarkable situation came about at the end of the Enlightenment, when many were debating what exactly distinguished man from animal. One of the prevailing opinions involved the ability to learn language; it was hoped that by studying the wild boy, they would learn the answer.
Shortly after Victor's amazing discovery, a local abbot and biology professor, Pierre Joseph Bonnaterre, examined him. He removed the boy's clothing and led him outside into the snow, where, far from being upset, Victor began to frolic about in the nude. This indicated to some that human reaction to temperature is greatly a result of conditioning and experience.
Despite the fact that he could hear, Victor was taken to the National Institute of the Deaf for the purpose of study (this was an age in which mute people were often considered to be deaf). He became a case study in the Enlightenment debate about the differences between humans and animals.

Jean Marc Gaspard Itard, a young medical student, took on the remarkable case as his own. Itard believed that two things separated humans from animals: empathy and language. He wanted to be the first person fully to civilize a wild child and attempted, primarily, to teach Victor to speak and show human emotion. Though initially successful — Victor showed significant progress, at least, in understanding language and reading simple words — he eventually slowed down to the point that Itard abandoned the experiment. The only word that Victor ever actually learned to spell out was lait (milk). Professor Uta Frith stated she believed Victor displayed the signs of autism. Modern scholars now believe, partly by studying such feral children, that language acquisition must take place in a critical period of early childhood if it is to be successful. Though Itard failed at teaching Victor language he had a breakthrough emotionally.

Victor lived with Itard and his housekeeper Madame Guérin. One night, while setting the table, Victor noticed Madame Guérin crying over the loss of her husband; he stopped what he was doing and consoled her, thus showing empathy. Itard took this as a major breakthrough in the case proving that the wild child was still capable of showing his humanity.
The Wild Boy of Aveyron died in Paris in 1828.

Aviatore, giornalista e politico italiano.

· Figlio di Samuele e di Anna Gelfi, durante la prima guerra mondiale si distinse come pilota dell'aviazione militare e le sue audaci imprese lo resero celebre. Abbattuto e fatto prigioniero il 15 settembre 1918, riuscì a fuggire travestito da soldato austriaco dopo poche settimane. Alla fine della guerra ricevette la medaglia di bronzo al valor militare, poi commutata in oro.
· Sotto il comando di Gabriele D'Annunzio partecipò al celebre volo su Vienna.
· Il 2 giugno 1919 partì a bordo di uno SVA da Buenos Aires per raggiungere Valparadiso trasvolando le Ande ma fu fermato da un uragano. Ritentò il 30 luglio e dopo aver sorvolato la Cordigliera delle Ande a 6.500 metri di quota atterrò a Viña del Mar, presso Valparaíso.
· Nel 1924 col Tenente Crosio a bordo di un idrovolante Dornier Wal tentò di aprire la rotta commerciale aerea dell'Atlantico del Nord, ma dopo aver toccato la Scozia e l'Islanda dovette ammarare in pieno oceano al largo di Capo Farewell (Groenlandia) e venne recuperato quattro giorni dopo dall'incrociatore americano Richmond.
· Dal 1924 al 1928 fu deputato al parlamento nella XXVII legislatura

· Animo forte e deciso, sicuramente un esempio d'umanità nazionale pur non essendosi mai dichiarato totalmente fascista nel biennio 1933-34 fu podestà di Bergamo.
Podestà senza moglie (I Podestà fascisti dovevano essere sposati), offriva volentieri il Gelato pomeridiano al Sign.re Fasolini, Commerciante Liutao, tra i più stimati cittadini di Bergamo e futuro nonno di un membro di We Are The Gang & supporter del gruppo avanguardistico conosciuto con il nome di Cobras.

The Cocktail Party

In un contesto rumoroso e caotico, dove siamo bombardati da migliaia di stimoli spesso impercettibili, all'improvviso può capitare di distinguere qualcosa chiaramente, che attira la nostra attenzione. Pensiamo ad un caso reale, in cui ci si può facilmente immedesimare.

Siamo ad una festa, musica, vociare, rumori vari giungono alle nostre orecchie indistintamente. La situazione é confusionaria, ma in un dato momento, 'quella' voce colpisce la nostra attenzione. Questo fenomeno é già noto, fin dal 1953, ed é conosciuto come effetto Cocktail Party , termine coniato dallo scienziato inglese E.C.Cherry che per primo ne studiò le dinamiche : di fronte ad un sovraccarico continuo e insistente di stimoli, l'uomo riesce ad essere immediatamente reattivo nell'istante in cui percepisce qualcosa che gli interessa. La definizione prende questo nome proprio perché la festa é tipicamente il luogo dove si verifica questo fenomeno, ma potremmo dire, che nella rumorosa società attuale, senza questa capacità avremmo serie difficoltà nel relazionarci a vicenda. Se questo processo era già noto, non si sapeva però da quale ragione o meccanismo cerebrale derivasse. Alexander Gutschalk, dell'Università Rupecht-Karl di Heidelberg, riferisce la sua scoperta alla rivista Plos Biology. L'effetto 'Cocktail Party' si origina nella corteccia uditiva secondaria del lobo temporale. Lo studio che ha condotto a questa scoperta é stato effettuato con l'ausilio della Magnetoencefalografia. E' stato monitorato l'effetto, ovvero é stata registrata l'area cerebrale attiva nel momento in cui un soggetto era in grado di identificare un rumore tra tanti indistinti. Questi risultati innanzitutto confermano scientificamente l'esistenza del fenomeno. Non stupisce che l'area stimolata si trovi proprio nella corteccia secondaria; é qui, infatti, che le percezioni umane vengono integrate ed arricchite con elementi di complessità.

Sono nato nel 20. A sette anni, anche se la maestra disse a mio padre di iscrivermi ad una scuola di conto od economia, io andai alla scuola di musica ed imparai il violino. Lo chiesi a mio padre e lui mi mandò a Bologna dove imparai anche violoncello e contrabbasso.

I miei genitori avevano una bottega in centro città e io per molti anni ci lavorai.

Quando ci fu la guerra fui molto fortunato; infatti fui reclutato e messo ad occuparmi delle provviste e del reparto. Pure quando tutti dovettero prendere le armi io non andai mai alla guerra vera. Convinsi il mio superiore ad assegnarmi compiti organizzativi e non dovetti combattere.

Finita la guerra cominciai ad avere successo con la mia banda. In inverno a Reggio e d’estate in riviera.

Fui il primo ad avere una batteria nel gruppo. Comprai i pezzi dalla banda militare. Eravamo bravi e ci fu assegnato pure un premio ambitissimo.

Fu allora che il proprietario di una sala da ballo a Reggio mi chiese di prendere in gestione il suo locale.

Io non mi credevo capace ma lui si vede che vedeva qualcosa in me. Al termine del contratto dell’allora gestore mi fece firmare e quindi, oltre ad avere la mia Dino Guidetti cuban d.g.c band, che era la migliore band dancing in circolazione, divenni gestore di un ambito locale.

I tre anni successivi furono un successo e il contratto fu rinnovato. Quell’anno poi aprì l’Astoria Grand Hotel a Reggio ed il proprietario mi chiese di gestire la sua sala da ballo. Io non volevo ma lui quasi mi obbligò e quindi accettai.

Quegli anni furono molto proficui e decisi di vendere la bottega.

L’attività di famiglia infatti dava 1, la mia band dava 2, gestire i locali dava 100 o mille…mica 10 o 15 capisci.Quindi nel 55 con i soldi risparmiati mi comprai il mio primo locale.

Ai tempi lo chiamai Embassy e pian piano divenne anche il più caro in città. Mille lire che ora sono come 50.000 lire, come 25 euro. Tutti volevano frequentarlo e gli affari andavano divinamente. All’inizio si apriva la domenica; poi si aprì anche il venerdì e il sabato, nei pomeriggi e alla sera. I clienti facevano riservare i tavoli, la mia orchestra faceva due cambi d’abito a sera, avevo il mio sarto a vestirli. Si entrava elle nove e all’una era finito tutto, la gente aveva dai venticinque fino ai sessanta anni, I drinks più richiesti erano il Negroni, il Gin Fizz, l’Alexander, il Bellini direi.

Io divenni vicepresidente dell’associazione di intrattenimento da ballo e di spettacolo ed andai spesso a Milano. Le novità là arrivavano almeno 6 mesi prima, è sempre stata la capitale per musica ed intrattenimento. Sta di fatto che un giorno copiando l’esempio dei miei amici gestori milanesi, tolsi la band e misi il disc jockey. Tutti a Reggio mi presero in giro, avevo la migliore band dell’Emila per lo meno e io, pur continuando a pagarla fino al termine del contratto, la tenevo a casa. Il successo fù grande però. La discoteca prese piede come in tutti gli altri locali e pian piano molte abitudini cambiarono. Dal 72 quindi cambiai registro e il nome del locale divenne Number One.

Ho avuto anche quello che si chiama Vasco, sono passati qua molti disc jockey famosi e bellissime donne.

Ho ottantotto anni e, da quando ne avevo sette, penso che la musica sia la mia fortuna.

By the time of the great international fair of 1901, Glasgow was wideley fecognized as the "second city of the British Empire." In addition to generating substantial profits from shipbuilding and coal and iron mining, Glasgow was spearheading Scotland's substantial contributions to British culture. It's Worldly and welleducated populancewas building a modern society to rival the most advanced in Europe. In the field of music, for example, one could hear a surprisingly rich diversity of forms in Glasgow: fiddling for the dancing of strathspeys and reels; pibroch and pipe-band music of the Inventary and Govan Police Pipe Bands; international music hall singers; concert bands; chamber music and concerts of the Scottish Orchestra; piano and song recitals by young Scottish women performing French and German works in salons; organ music and choral singing in chuches; and opera at the Crystal Palace.

Machintosh was born in Glasgow in 1868, his early life was spent in the oldest part of the city but later the large family moved to a house in the countryside where he took long walks on which he would sketch buildings and flowers. During this impressionable period he determined to become an architect and at his sexteen machintosh was apprenticed to an architectural office. He also enrolled as an evening student at the artistically progressive Glasgow School of Art. With tree fellow students machintosh formed a collaborative design group known as the four. by the end of 1894 they had rivolutioned interior design, creating the glasgow style, a northern version of Art Nouveau.

Machintosh masterpiece "the Hill House (1902-4) merged traditional seventheenth-century Scottish Baronial architecture with Art Nouveau. The interior of the house has white rooms, white walls, white woodwork and stenciled rose trellises around the walls. machintosh was meticolous about integrating all the details of style and feeling in his buildings, and at the Hill House he designed the gardens and table settings as well as the interior and forniture. Although Machintosh's all-encompassing creativity was more influential in Budapest, Turin and Vienna, it could have originated nowhere but in the unique cultural context of Glasgow by the turn of the century.

Che domanda ti faresti se potessi?

GL : Cosa mi spinge a disegnare?
Tutto quello che vedo e che vivo, dalle più piccole esperienze a un immagine trovata su internet, le faccie delle persone e la composizione grafica-spaziale della città, non riesco a stare a lungo in campagna, non trovo interessi. ho sempre bisogno di stimoli molto forti, qualcosa che prende a schiaffi.

L’oggetto che faresti bruciare/seppellire con te?

GL : Il mio disco di Kong Ling & The Fabolous Echoes trovato a Delft in Olanda, in un negozio grande ma con poco spazio calpestabile e milioni di dischi.

Ti piacerebbe essere donna e perché?

GL : Ma non piacerebbe essere una donna per il semplice fatto che sono nato così e mi ci sono abituato.

Qual è il tuo ricordo più lontano?

GL : Il mio primo ricordo risale ad appena nato, ricordo l'immagine di mia mamma che mi nasconde sotto le coperte dell'ospedale per non farmi portate via dalle infermiere. in realtà non so se sia un ricordo vero o qualcosa che deriva dal racconto, però è come un flashback fortissimo.

Come ti piacerebbe morire?

GL : Ma ti pare che mi piacerebbe morire, però se dovessi decidere sicuramente lo vorrei fare lasciando più cose in sospeso verso le persone peggiori che conosco, e soprattutto vorrei morire con una fede religiosa fortissima in modo tale da non preoccuparmene un attimo prima.

A cosa serve la tua arte?

GL : A me e alle persone che in me ci credono, a insegnare a qualcuno che la ricerca è importante e speriamo anche a farmi guadagnare la pagnotta.

Qual è il suono o rumore che preferisci?

GL : Il rumore che fa la coda del mio cane quando scodinzolando sbatte su qualcosa , vuol dire che è felice

Ti piace l’italia?

GL : Abbastanza, più che mi piace ci sono cresciuto e in un qualche modo ci sono legato, ho fatto esperienze all'estero, una anche per un periodo di 5 mesi, solo che è sempre difficile stare lontano dalle persone care, di certo internet e le grandi possibilità comunicative che offre ti aiutano molto a startene lontano, poi va beh, imparando a crearti un tuo ambiente all'estero la lontanza si fa sentire sempre meno.

Pantano?

GL : Pantano e più precisamente via poma sono i miei posti, i posti dove sono cresciuto.dove negli anni 90 c'era una storia locale, uno stile locale. Mille personaggi veri, gente da case popolari, non dico che sono nato nel ghetto, ma comunque in una realtà abbastanza forte.
poi la mia città è stata molto importante in italia negli anni 90, per molte culture underground, dai graffiti ai rave party, sono cresciuto vedendo chi faceva le cose perchè ci credeva e perciò ho imparato a fare una cosa e farla con tutto il cuore.

Qual è il posto più bello che conosci?

GL : Mah ce ne sono tanti, perchè i posti migliori sono legati a delle esperienze, ci sono posti meravigliosi che però non mi comunicano niente. posso dire che quello che preferisco è via lamarca, una via di pesaro dove ho passato delle bellissime giornate e dei bellissimi momenti con 3+1 dei miei amici migliori.giornate allegre a goderci la vita

La parte di te che vorresti non cambiasse mai?

GL : La voglia di farsi in 4 per qualcuno a cui voglio bene. e anche il mio ciuffo!

Cinzia?

GL : Cinzia è il mio cane, la mia donna nel cuore, la mia compagnia fedele. mi vuole bene e io ne voglio a lei, vivere con un cane è molto impegnativo ma si ha un riscontro nel lato affettivo pazzesco.
un cane è sempre li, pronto a darti affetto senza chiedersi perchè.

Cosa pensi della manualità?

GL : Che è molto importante, è importante saper creare qualcosa con le proprie mani, onestamente non mi piacciono per niente i tentativi di manualità fatti in maniera digitale e viceversa, non lo trovo utile, non serve a niente imitare una maniera.
ogni mezzo ha le sue determinate possibilità ed è giusto che vengano utilizzate.
al pc non cercarò mai di colorare un disegno come se usassi gli acrilici, sarebbe una perdita di tempo perchè perderei quella materialità che ha il pennello insieme alla carta, al gesto.

Quale evento storico/epoca vorresti vivere?

GL : Ma ad essere sincero non mi interessa entrare a pieno in un epoca e cercare di riviverla a pieno, sarebbe una stupidaggine. ogni cultura è giusta nel contesto storico/culturale da cui proviene. puoi attingere da tutto ma non bisogna inquadrarsi dentro un determinato ambito, sarebbe limitato.

GL : topor è il più figo di tutti quanti gli artisti.

GL : All'inizio si, adesso di più.

Adonis, often referred to as Acid Budda; Jack Frost; and The King of Bass lines.

Born and raised on the West Side of Chicago, was introduced to all forms of music at a young age. His love for music led to his attendance and study of contemporary jazz and orchestrations at the American Conservatory of Music in downtown Chicago.

Adonis was responsible for the birth of Acid House, by both producing/co-producing the first Acid House classics to be put on vinyl and by being the first in Chicago to use the TB303 to create such classics. I've Lost Control (Space Mix)" was the 1st Acid/Space Track released on vinyl from Chicago in 1986. He didn't name the sound "Acid". He named the sound "SPACE". I've Lost Control was released in 1986. “Phuture - Acid Track” was released in 1987.
“No Way Back”, “Lack of Love”, “We’re Rockin’ Down the House”, “Tom Tom”, “Two the Max”, and “The Poke”, just to name a few hits.

Adonis also received a House Music award for being the very first House Music artist to sign with Jive Records. He was also responsible at that time for using his influential position to encourage Jive to sign the following artists also to their label (unbeknownst to them): Mr. Lee, DJ Pierre, Darryl Pandy (who rejected Jive’s offer), and Liz Torres.

Did any influence led you to develop your sound?

A : Yes, The study of Jazz. I used to listen to recordings from all the great Jazz artist from the be-bop era.

What do you remember of those years that wont happen again?

A : The freedom to throw parties almost anywhere you desire. Nowadays you have to have a permits and insurances to throw a simple house party.

Would you be able to explain what use to happen in a club in those years and what has changed today?

A : Nothing has changed really.The only change i can see is the people are different, the clubs are different. The older clubbers are doing other things with their time now. I was just talking to a friend a few days ago. I asked him will he be going out this weekend? His answer was "No, I'm burned out and getting old".

How was your life in those years?

A : Exciting, Not one dull moment.

What can't be missed in Chicago nowadays?

A : I don't think there's nothing in Chicago that's not worth your attention. Chicago has gotten better every year. Chicago is a very clean and innovative city.

What are you up to in this period?

A : promoting my clothing line.

Something you love to do in your city?

A : I love to going to live musicals in any genres.

I am very curious to understand what kind of person you are. Would you be able to describe yourself in a few words even with an anecdote?

A : I'm a very friendly guy that loves to create and share musical ideas. I think that's one one of my biggest habits I love sharing. I trust others to much.

1. Crystal & Taro Ishida - Initiative!

Track out of the brand new "Initiative! EP" on Institubes Nihon. Bobmo made me listen to their stuff a while ago when i was at his place and i really loved it. Doesnt sound like anything getting out right now, it's more old school electro, this track is a mixture between Hithouse - Jack to the sound of the underground, Alan Braxe, & an amiga soundtrack.

2. Fight for Love -It comes too early

A beautiful track from 2 of my good friends of the french band "Adam Kesher", doing this side project. It'll be released on the very promising label "Satelites of Love" with a great spacey slow mo remix of Mickey Moonlight. They sampled Werner Herzog movies, are fans of Arthur Russel and Green Velvet, and think their music is the new Michael Jackson.

3. Boys Noize - Jeffer

B-side of Boys Noize's new single to be released late June 2009. A track we started together at his studio because of a great sample we were having fun with, then put a twitched synth over it. After a couple of month he told me he actually finished it, and later, that he was going to release it on his single. Result is really strange cause it's a mixture of retarded cut up disco and nostalgic siren rave, with an obvious boys noize touch, which somehow fits really well...

4. Das Glow - A lighter Shade of Bright

A remix of his own song "Lite Brite" released on Institubes. The Lite Brite Remix EP (which i contributed also with a remix) is gonna be released begining of June. I absolutely love this version, slow moving Talkbox freestyle with arpeggios and keys. It's a beautiful ballad. Another aspect of Das Glow's great talent.

5. Dr Dog - Livin a dream

One of the best songs with "My Old Ways" of the nowadays american band Dr Dog. I chose this one cause of the theme developped, which i often thought about, whether it's for music or more widely, life. Check the speech at the end of the song i find very beautiful and well put.

6. Romanthony & Dj Predator - Do you wanna dance

No need to introduce this guy. I played this track in almost every of my set since i started mixing alone. It's simple and close to perfection in terms of efficiency, the very rough mix between the sample loop and the very bright shuffled beat is very characteristic of this ghetto house i love. One track in my new EP is a tribute to all these house ghetto gay beatmakers.

7. Serge Gainsbourg - Variations Sur Marilou

One of numerous awesome songs of Sergio. This one is out of his best album to me: "L'homme a la tête de Chou". I always loved listening to it walking in the streets, it's somehow very hypnotic but if you pay attention to all the different movements of rhythms and instruments there's a whole new dimension appearing. Now if you focus on the lyrics it's even better, very rough, poetic, and repetitive. The pattern is great. Everybody should be influenced by this ugly asshole.

8. Siriusmo - Nights off

Off his new 5 track EP "The uninvited Guest", out on Modeselektor's label. Siriusmo is one of my favourite producer at the moment. Especially for his melodic parts. I met him in Berlin when Boys noize played and i was really surprised cause he never goes out. He stepped to me to say hi and told me he liked my first EP. I think i became red as a lobster. Nothing to say about the track, listen to it. Really.

9. The Joubert Singers - Stand on the world (Larry Levan Mix)

Maybe the most beautiful song in the world. It's the song Justice made a tribute to when they made D.A.N.C.E. Butchered recently by a wannabe Justice mainstream copycat sadly. I love Larry Levan's dubs, the way he makes the songs evolve, it's always really slight and extatic. He also helped me a lot for samples with his special dj mixes of disco tracks, where he made each different parts shine separatly in the structure so that you can create longer mixes of em mixing with 2 turntables.

10. Vinyl Fever - Electronic for Children (Original 909 Edit)

Pfff perfect gimmick. Sharp. Hard. Mongoloid and very fun to listen to, i guess that's why they called it "Electronic for children". The drums are aslo very important in this track. Goofy dinosaur dancing on the dancefloor. Vinyl Fever are some of my favourite french producers with the Roulé & Crydamoure team and Jess & Crabbe. I played and will always play tracks from all thses guys. French legacy.

11. Bob James - Sign of the times

Massive song out of his album "Sign of the times", which Boys Noize just offered me for my birthday. He made me discover Bob James (shame on me), this weird funny moustached guy that makes contemporary disco jazz using samples. He has been sampled by pretty much ALL big rap producers, and this track has been sampled for the monument: "Regulate" of Warren G.

12. Ambassadors of Funk - Everybody

Track released on his album "Monster Jam" in 1988. Amazing groove. A killer dancefloor track. Everything is huge in it: the triplets piano keys, the overused voice samples chopped up perfectly like a beautiful salad, and the supergroovin breakbeats.

13. Blake Baxter - Sexuality

Whispers over a super massive ghetto beat. Grooviest hypno bassline you can do. The Arpegio sounds really weird with the rest to me, but it adds a gloomy disturbing note. I think i listened to it over 1236 times. Or something. Very filthy. Some of you might feel uncomfortable. Then it means you're not ready for house music and should go back to Ricarda Vilalabas and his delightful strawberry textures. Sexuality. Let your body be free.

14. Adam Sparkle & Dave P - Delaze (Strip Steve's 9 Minutes Journey to Salvation Mix)

A remix i did for 2 very cool american techno producers. Off their new EP out in June on "Satelites Of Love", label i mentioned earlier. The original is already acid, but i emphasized this side by doing a 303 line of my own, making the structure very slow to progress, with lots of drums. It's colder, harder & longer than what i make usually, but i needed this one as a sort of catharsis. It ends on a very gay ravey note, it's the salvation. You have to picture a naked black man elevating from the ground on the top of a mountain. If you see that man, then you got it.

15. Atlas Sound - Cold and Golden

I don't like all of Bradford Cox solo songs, far from it actually. But this one is a treasure. I think if was an heroin addict slug, this would be my favourite song to do my fix.

16. Bizarre Inc. - Agroovin'

Out of their album "Energique" which is just great from the first to the last track and contains all their classics. This track is special for me, the way it's structured and the way the parts are mixing between themselves. I'm particularly moved (and a bit jealous) when i hear the begining. It's perfection to me.

17. Rhythim is Rhythim - Strings Of Life.

For sure my favourite track of Derrick May. Evenmore, maybe my favourite Techno track of all times. When i discovered it between my hundreds of Soulseek folders, i literaly stopped and stared. I can't compare it to any other track i know. My favourite memory was when i got out of a big exam at University 3 years ago, exhausted, i was the first one to leave the room. I just lied down on the grass, sun in my face, lit a cigarette and played this song. I think that's the moment i knew what were my priorities in life. (smoking cigarettes).

18. Joel & Garlo - Supermarket Girl.

I sampled bits of this track and used em in a couple of my track and remixes. It's out of a 7 inch released in 1984. It's a duo of french new wave pop. I dig a lot of the old french pop, it's one of the best in the world with Taxi Girl, Elli & Jacno, Lio etc... A very close friend of mine gave me this record because Garlo is actually his father. He did a lot of different stuff, including a Big Beat album and an experimental one around guitars played only by the wind on top of the famous "Dune du Pyla" (next to Bordeaux, my hometown). He also invented a genre called "Earth Music" that is supposed to break all musical categories, to focus only on people creating sounds all around the planet. It's a living legend, and i am very proud i had the chance to meet him in his studio.

19. KMD - What a niggy know.

Blasting track from one of my most classic rap album "Black Bastards" from early years MF DOOM band with his brother, that died shortly afterwards. This album was my favourite "corridors between 2 classes" and "bell ringing out of school" music. Everytime i hear this track i can't help but frown, stick my lips out and jump everywhere like i'm retarded. Put just the 3 first seconds of this track in a party where my friends are and watch the result.

20. Joe Smooth - They want to be free.

One of my fav track of Joe Smooth (released in 1989). Very Powerful. Epic dance journey to the "brousse". It's about south african people dreaming of freedom. Oyé Oyé. South Africa. Open your eyes and see the truth.

A duecento chilometri da Città del Messico si trovava il Rancho di Escolastica, una bellissima residenza — con piscina e porticato-soggiorno e numerose camere da letto, ognuna di colore diverso — costruita ed arredata secondo lo stile messicano.

1 — Immensa sala rotonda dall'originalissimo soffitto in mattoni a cupola. La stanza, articolata in diverse zone, era arredata esclusivamente con elementi di produzione messicana. A ricchi mobili barocchi del Settecento erano alternati alcuni pezzi, sempre del Settecento, che rieccheggiavano lo stile "Queen Ann". Si notano ceramiche di Puebla del XVIII secolo, quadri popolari mesicani, ex-voto dell'Ottocento e i famosi fiori finti del messico.

2 — Per gli ospiti era a disposizione la camera rossa, dove al rosa salmone delle pareti faceva riscontro, in un raffinatissimo accostamento, il rosso vivo delle coperte dei due letti. Le porte e gli scuri delle finestre: antichi pezzi messicani

3 — Camera da letto dei padroni di casa. Riuniva alcuni pezzi d'antiquariato come il cofano cinese in pelle rossa sotto la finestra e il quadro di arte popolare messicana raffigurante San Pietro e San Giovanni.

4 — La camera azzurra, così detta per il colore dominante dell'arredamento. Dalle pareti ai soprammobili, tutto è azzurro: più scuro per la cappa del camino, la nicchia dove erano inquadrati i letti e le coperte.

A stereo camera is a type of camera with two or more lenses. This allows the camera to simulate human binocular vision, and therefore gives it the ability to capture three-dimensional images, a process known as stereo photography. The distance between the lenses in a typical stereo camera (the intra-axial distance) is about the distance between one's eyes (known as the intra-ocular distance) and is about 6.35cm.

3D pictures following the theory behind stereo cameras can also be made more inexpensively by taking two pictures with the same camera, but moving the camera a few inches either left or right. If the image is edited so that each eye sees a different image, then the image will appear to be 3D. This method has problems with objects moving in the different views, though works well with still life.
Stereo cameras gained great popularity in the 1950s and 1960s and most of them are no longer manufactured.

Wiggle stereoscopy method, possibly the simplest stereogram viewing technique, is to simply alternate between the left and right images of a stereogram. This can easily be accomplished with an animated .gif image. Most people can get a crude sense of dimensionality from such images, due to persistence of vision and parallax.
Recent research indicates that binocular vision is the results of timing and phase disparities in the visual cortex. By timing the wiggle just right and using the right amount of parallax we can fool the neural cortex into registering the sensation of binocular vision.

Artista rinascimentale tedesco che seppe imprimere ai volti e alle cose che dipinse il segno della sua spontanea simpatia umana e, insieme, abbastanza eclettico e distacato da tentare — contemporaneamente e senza problemi — i temi più diversi, i soggetti più disparati e contrastanti. I ritratti degli "eroi" della riforma e quelli dei difensori più strenui del cattolicesimo romano, idilli paganeggianti e allegorie mistiche, cacce e convitti, tornei e leggende di santi: tutto con sensibilità alle sollecitazioni esterne, sempre pronto ad accogliere e a farle sue, con facilità e prontezza, magari per abbandonare poi di fronte al sorgere di nuovi interessi.

Lo Sturm und Drang delle opere giovanili, con le loro accentuazioni patetiche, le loro esasperazioni drammatiche, l'abbondanza di boschi e di romantiche foreste nordiche è rimpiazzato da un'improvvisa ventata di italianismo. Dopo la permanenza in Olanda nascono gelide architetture e palazzi rinascimentali, sfondi neutri ed astratti. Sperimenta la raffigurazione del nudo femminile, un tema che nella pittura tedesca era, allora, di sconcertante e audace modernità. l'incontro con lutero nei pirmi anni roventi della polemica antipapale riporta il pittore eclettico e raffinato delle Veneri ignude o dei garbati idilli pagani a riformulare, per un attimo, l'istintivo e drammatico vigore delle prime composizioni. Si fa quindi interprete dell'iconografia protestante ma ne sarà il divulgatore più che il creatore, il mediatore più che il poeta. Il suo fragile e capriccioso ideale di bellezza è soffocato da un momento di stanchezza, di impoverimento di fantasia. Cranach è così poco assorbito dalla produzione protestante che nn si fa scrupolo nel dipingere contemporaneamente per il più valido antagonista della riforma ritrovando presto la sua estenuata ricerca estetica.

Eredità medievali e conquiste rinascimentali, tradizioni germaniche e suggestioni italianizzanti, ascetismo e mondanità, luteranesimo e cattolicesimo sono entrati a far parte della sua cultura senza che egli sentisse l'assillo di una scelta o l'esigenza di una sintesi: ma dal complesso della sua opera — così varia e spesso così contradditoria — esce un'immagine tra le più affascinanti della grande stagione pittorica della Germania cinquecentesca.
